Togo's Pastrami Among Recalled Deli Meats

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- Nearly 16,000 pounds of meat from a Los Angeles-based food company have been recalled for possible bacteria contamination.

FDA officials announced Friday night that wholesale meats shipped by Rose & Shore Meat Company of Vernon could contain Listeria monocytogenes.

Wholesale meats in 9- to 50- pound boxes were distributed to commercial retailers in California, Arizona, Washington, Nevada and Oregon.
The problem was discovered after the company tested product after receiving a consumer complaint.
 No illnesses have been reported.
The recalled products include:
  • Olympic Gold Beef Pastrami with the lot number 20911 and packing date of April 5, 2011;
  • Rose & Shore N.Y. Style Pastrami with the lot number 20911 and packing date of April 5, 2011;
  • Cooked Angus Roast Beef with the lot number 20941 and a use-by date of May 17, 2011;
  • Togo's Pastrami with the lot number 20911 and a packing date of April 5, 2011.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.

Those with weakened immune systems, pregnant, infants, the elderly and people undergoing chemotherapy are particularly at risk.
